Smiling while sitting on a bicycle outdoors

Going back to the root, at times.

We come a long way in our journey — started with a bicycle, then a motorcycle, a small car, a luxury car. Still, sometimes we should go back to the root and ride it again. Not because we failed to move forward, but because the beginning keeps us honest.

It works the same way in a career. Though we grow as leaders and move into higher positions, we should always return to our roots — make our hands dirty by writing code, deploying to production, and fixing bugs. That habit helps us stay relevant to what we do every day. Others see us as a true leader, not only a manager who stands far from the work.

This photo is that reminder on two wheels: progress is good, but the bicycle still belongs in the story.
